TERESA COUSINS - Treasurer

Teresa Cousins currently serves as a Tribal Council Member for the Jamul Indian Village. In addition to serving on the Tribal Council, she currently serves as a New Board Member of the California Tribal Families Coalition.

Teresa attributes her interest in Tribal government to her father, Kenneth Meza, who served many years as the Tribe’s chairman.

Since 1997, Teresa has worked in the tribal office in the capacity of an Office Assistant, Receptionist and Enrollment Assistant. Teresa has also worked with the Teen Pregnancy Program helping tribal children to strive for more rounded learning experiences and has always been there to help with any of the Tribal Cultural Programs. Teresa enjoys giving her time to help teach the Tribal youth about the Kumeyaay Peon Game, making ribbon dresses for the girls and shirts for the boys, cooking, flower making and decorating for any event.

Teresa was raised with her mother in San Diego and visited her dad on the Jamul Indian Village Reservation on the weekends. At the age of 19, she moved to her father’s house on the Reservation with her family. Teresa and her husband Richard, of 23 years, have 5 grown children; 3 sons, 2 daughters, a granddaughter and twin grandsons.

In her free time, Teresa enjoys spending time with her family, scrap-booking, crafting and going on vacation.
